"Oh that my ways were directed to keep Your Statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments." Psalms 119:5-6
The Bible Verse for the day talks about the plea of the Psalmist. And is this not the cry of the human heart since the dawn of known civilization? We have always found an instinctive side to take between Good and Evil. Rarely have men taken the side of Evil, without knowing all the way that it was the wrong side to be on. "Wrong" in the moral sense of the word. C. S. Lewis expounded in his book Mere Christianity in words that went along the lines of something like this: that fairness is an innate, if not universal, Truth, found even in the most "evil" of men; even the most evil man will cry out "Foulplay!" when it is done against him.

And so in this, I find the Psalmist's plea to be most relatable to me, if not to all men. At least to the degree of what I know about the people around me. While we often know good and evil, we often struggle to consistently stay on the side of good. And the verse of today cries out, "Oh, that my ways were directed...". Oh, that what we actually do can be directed by something or someone that is outside of our Self. To help us on the way to achieving that moral standard we know is "right" to achieve... is that really possible?
As we have seen from the other posts, the New Testament is often written as an interpretation of the Old Testament. And indeed, we believe that through the lenses of the New, the mysteries of the Old are revealed.
In the words of Jesus, we find a direct answer to the cries of our heart:
"However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you of things to come." John 16:13
This verse comes in a conversation that Jesus is having about His imminent departure from earth. He had just told His disciples that He has to leave, so that the Helper shall come. And though the disciples would find it hard to understand then, He said, when He (the Spirit of Truth) comes, He comes to be their guide.
And the Holy Spirit has indeed come into every believer who has accepted Christ as their savior. All of us have received this Helper, Counselor, Friend. We in, these present times, have received the answer for the plea which the Psalmist had prayed for.
To direct our ways on earth, God has sent a guide. A guide that is in us wherever, whenever and forever. Really believe that today's verse is a part of bibles verses for encouragement. Let today's bible verse remind you of this blessing that we have received, which the ancient sages have sought after. May we all lean in to the Guide that is in our Spirits today!
